Silent No More Pro-Life March, Mexico 2007
Below you will find the slide show of the pro-life march
and demonstration conducted in front of the Legislative Assembly
building in Mexico City, March 23, 2007. The captions are in Spanish. Three
women from Miami and one from Spain who aborted, as well as Janet Morana ( c o-founder
of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign) and this writer, planned to give
public testimony where it concerns the physical and emotional consequences of
induced abortion. This was to be, the first Silent No More event in a
Latin American country.
However, we were threatened with jail, if we spoke publicly in
front of the legislative assembly building. We were told that according to a
Mexican law, foreigners are not allowed to speak publicly about Mexican
legislation. We decided to go ahead with the demonstration anyway,
and as a sign of our protest at being deprived of our freedom of speech, all of
us who were foreigners had a tape over our mouth. We held signs in
Spanish, here's the translation of some of them: "Pregnant women need help
not abortion"; "I choose life"; "I am wholeheartedly
sorrowful that I aborted", etc. The next day all the Silent No More
testimonies (including mine), were given during a press conference at the hotel
where the international pro-life conference was being held; as well as during
the conference itself, March 24th.
